The word Dinnseanchas means ‘topography’ referring to the origins of place names, these place names may sometimes involve a person or an event which has formed the particular area or landscape resulting in a name.
Embark on a journey of discovery at the majestic Sliabh Liag cliffs with our unique workshop, “Navigating Stories: A Map Reading and Placelore Workshop.” Designed for enthusiasts of all levels, this immersive experience blends the practical skills of map reading with the captivating exploration of placelore, the lore and stories tied to the land. Set against the backdrop of one of Ireland’s most stunning landscapes, this workshop promises a day of learning, adventure, and connection to the rich tapestry of history and nature that Sliabh Liag embodies.
This workshop will allow you to explore many local place names, you will also use your skills learned to explore names in other places. Using a specially produced local map, our expert will bring you on a journey of discovery to places new.
Weather permitting a field trip will be included.
Participants are advised to wear comfortable hiking attire suitable for variable weather conditions and bring water, snacks, a notebook, and a camera to capture the breathtaking views. All map reading materials will be provided.
